Here are Brian and his parents with their very serious "Chairman Mao faces" on.This is actually a picture of Tiananman Gate which is across the street from the square.
A very interesting place. Very historical and I thought, emotionally-charged place. There were lots of people that were "fixing their camera" for long periods of time. I guess it's known that there are plain-clothed police in the square listening for any sign of dissent but it was still weird to actually be able to spot some of them.

I must question the Chairman Mao looks on my family's faces; mom looks like her questioning self (I would think Mao would prefer NO questions) and Brian appears as he did on top of Mt. Fuji: pensive and prepared for decent. As for dad, well he seems pleased with himself and his surroundings, also not high on the list of Mao-isms. I did see an unpublished photo of Shelley with a Mao face that I thought captured the essence of the party line, but alas it isn't blogged.
Your trip looked like it was awesome !!
